For over a year now, Digital Science and representatives from across the Holtzbrinck group of companies have been testing and providing feedback to Google on what is now called Google Gemini (previously DuetAI). As these products have been launched through various tiers of Google subscriptions we’ve been awaiting the launches at the Enterprise level which have now happened. With that milestone achieved:

Google Gemini for Workspace has been enabled for all staff at Digital Science.

This is a very impactful step towards meeting the Digital Science objective of “Harnessing AI to accelerate innovation and drive scalable efficiency across DS“. By providing a suite of AI based services to enhance the working lives of all staff, we really feel that this is a really big step forward.

Gemini for Google Workspace is an AI-powered assistant integrated into Google's suite of productivity applications like Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat, Drive and Gemini Advanced. Its aim is to transform work by automating tasks, enhancing creativity, summarising information, improving communications, organising data and assisting with project management, therefore freeing up time for users to focus on more strategic activities. It aims to create a new and powerful way of working with generative AI.

How can Gemini assist with writing and content creation within Google Workspace?

Gemini offers a "Help me write" feature within applications like Gmail and Docs that can generate drafts, refine existing text, or alter the tone of writing. It can also generate marketing copy for ads, social media, and email campaigns. Gemini can help improve your writing and also summarises information. Also, it provides suggestions within the Smart Canvas to help the user complete the task.

How does Gemini help with data analysis and organisation within Google Sheets?

Gemini can be used to organise customer data, create project trackers, build financial models, and generate insights from data in Google Sheets. It can assist with creating pivot tables, calculating financial metrics like IRR and ROI, and identifying trends. AI formulas are also now available.

In what ways can Gemini improve communication and customer service interactions?

Gemini can draft email responses, summarise conversations, create templates for customer communication, and ensure grammatically correct and tonally appropriate responses. It can also help customer service representatives quickly find information across multiple documents to answer complex questions. The response times to customers can therefore be reduced.

How does Gemini protect user data within Google Workspace?

Google Workspace is built on user choice, and your data does not belong to Google. Data stays within your Workspace environment, and your privacy is protected. User content is not used for targeting ads or training AI models. Data is not used to improve Gemini.

Effective prompts should be specific, concise, and iterative. Examples include:

•"Create a spreadsheet to track project issues..." (Sheets)

•"Generate a list of questions I can use to build the survey" (Gemini Advanced)

•"Summarize this email" (Gmail)

•Provide Gemini with context, information and tag files, for example, use "@[Product Launch - Notes] to add more information about the company that is being acquired, its mission, and how it got started." (Docs)

Gemini Advanced is a standalone chat experience available at http://gemini.google.com that offers enterprise-grade security and can be used to perform tasks such as manage multiple email inboxes, generate outlines of presentations, or conduct market research. It integrates smoothly with Google Workspace applications and can improve your focus and workflow, helping you complete tasks. In general, it seems to allow you to perform a wider range of tasks.
